Park Swings

PROMPT: Flash Fiction Competition 2017

My feet coiled back, the creak of the park swings made my eyes light. Dust off the rocks came up, painting my jeans in dirt. I pumped my feet forward and back, daring to test the limits of how high I could go. I flashed my dad a smile, "Catch me!" I opened my fists and flew, trusting him to break my fall.
My legs extended to initiate a slow rock, the sad ache had only brought back memories of...

It Started Small

PROMPT: Writing Small

The house was charred, blackened soot and burnt plastics filled the air with a bitter calm. Homecoming

PROMPT: Your World in Three Senses

The pungent smell hits you before anything else, and if you hadn't grown up there then you would find it repulsive. To the people who live here it is the sign of the spring. The lines of trees are replaced by fields coming off the highway and runoff rushes through the ditches, changing the valley to a marsh. The birds chirp a song of welcome and you are overwhelmed by the beauty of your home.

My Mother, the Deceased

PROMPT: Mystery Writing Competition 2017

They told me she died peacefully; old age. It’s true her body had withered and age had taken some memory; but they're fools, she did nothing of the sort. I have not imagined any of this, I know my mother, and she was under my care- she was killed. Too healthy to die so suddenly.

Five years earlier I brought her home, when she lived hundreds of kilometers away I couldn't take care of her. She was old, fragile. I...

I really love this piece and the ideas it brings about contradictions and perceptions. Changing the meaning of the colour to suit our needs... However I feel as if the end was lacking some. I wish you would've added more...

Lurking Shadows

PROMPT: Turned to Stone

First of all, good job! You made me ask questions about the story to myself, which is what we all should want to do to our readers. As I've already commented on, your language choices were great and immensely added...

the wolf

Such a sinister piece! I think it would be interesting to see this piece have more description and imagery, because you could really play with the emotions of the sheep or the wolf, depending on whether you want it to...
