The fawn dipped its tongue into the crisp water. The birds sung and the trees whispered; everything else was silent. She glanced at her mother besides her, her silhouette dark against the dying sunlight. She was old, but she was still graceful. The fawn yawned. She was always lagging behind when the deer migrated, and all that running had caught up with her. It didn't matter—the herd always stayed up late. Besides, she loved drinking water. I Write To Escape

PROMPT: Why I Write

I write to see through the minds of others
To live on when they are dead.

I write to see my mind among others
To live on when I am dead.

I write to escape this haughty prison
Where the walls are closing in on me,
And my pen is my only weapon,
Chipping away the dying walls,

But never quite breaking them.
