Speech

Speech

Whom will ever know,
Which way the wind will blow,
Can it blow me off the fence?
What ideas can grow,
When the language flows,
Yet reeks of common sense.

Ideas that are so great,
Are often met with hate,
And crushed beneath the boot,
Only to feel,
The collective heel,
That grinds the purpose moot.

We can disagree,
Sometime quite forcefully,
Convince, shame or beseech,
Beauty, elegance, and grace,
Are then replaced by waste,
Such is our disgrace,
When no longer we embrace,
Free speech.
