Message from Writer

Hi there! I’m Joe. I love writing and receiving feedback for all my work, so thank you for any support you give me. Welcome to my page!

Most of my style is freestyle, but I mess around with more traditional work from time to time. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I fell into poetry a few years ago in a rhetoric class that required us to memorize poems. If I was to classify my work, I’d say the majority of it would fall under a more modern genre with a more fluid form and modern language.

Again, welcome, and thank you for coming! Leave your thoughts on my work, and I’m always open to questions!

A Nickel and Two Flowers

A nickel and two flowers
to the girl who won’t leave my dreams.
Maybe she’ll go away
and let me remember
when I just wanted to be friends.

It’s because
I thought I was over her,
because
I didn’t think I’d hurt this hard
all for a stupid four letter word.

Three tadpoles in a pickle jar,
for whoever made me,
for creation
so far from creator,
so far from happiness.

And there are reminders
that right now I’m alone. ...

Stared out the bus window
and counted like seven Tesla’s.
Watched my sister dye her hair red
in the downstairs bathroom.
Chased a clump of leaves
down a gutter,
down a street,
past the little blue house on the corner...

Stared out the bus window
and counted like forty good memories.
Held a flower in my hand
and stuck it behind my ear.
Walked down a hill
to a stream
where I floated some dandelion seeds
with the current.
And...

Head spinning
webs,
spinning
like a wheel,
spinning threads.
Rolled over
on the ground,
on the ground,
held over
a concrete dream.
Gut twist, locked wrists, word lists.
Spinning heads
and uncontrolled ones too,
ones that aren’t ready
to be so wrapped up in insanity.
And concrete dreams
of cracked streets;
cracked black streets and the Illegal Pete’s on Colorado Boulevard.
In a web
of confusing designs,
of spilled over cups,
of unending poetic sentiments
that lead us nowhere
but...

Almost Poetic

FREE WRITING

A stint
of alliteration, all according
to slow beginnings
and slower plans
and paint thinnings,
all according to anything
anyone could find lovable.
Call me
by that name one more night
and I’ll catch
any fireflies mid flight, make
not one more move, my friend,
before I pour this light of my own
into your heart
and make you heavy
with imperfect poetry
and only slightly satisfying ends.
