speak for the voiceless, write for the wordless

Message from Writer

Hello, fellow writers! Why do you write? I write when I feel too small for this everchanging, expansive Universe. I also write when I feel too big for the life I've built around me. I write because the beauty of the world inspires me, just as the anger does. Inspiration comes in all different shapes and forms, and stems from different reasons. So again, I ask, why do you write? I want to know, because every story is different. Do you write because you love the person you are and the world you live in? Do you write because you want to change who you are and the world you live in? I write because with every story I pen and every article I type, I am a new version of myself. I write to remember that every "I am" is greater than "I was."

“I throw wishes into the night and wait for the stars to catch them,” I murmur, still staring up at the most glorious painting to ever exist. A perfect mixture of stars and sky and freedom.
“Where is that from?” he asks, smiling softly at me. It's a smile not of sunshine, but moonlight. Purer, sweeter, simpler. More fragile in the sense that the moon cares what people think of it. The Sun never has.

if you're reading this, it's for a reason. a reminder.
as you go forth in your day today, please remember:
the mountains are never angry about being too tall.
the oceans are never upset about being too vast.
the Universe never complains about being too big,
just as every glorious entity within it never complains about being too small.
the features of the world do not complain about the way that they are...
so why must you complain about your...

a too-late kind of love.

you won’t know how much you love him until he’s gone.
and once he’s gone, you’ll realize all too quickly-
that the best gifts in life are the ones you never ask for.
i’ve always disliked the Sun: not in a hateful way, just in a
“you burn my eyes and scorch my skin” sort of way.
the Sun’s glow has always been too arduous for me, too intense,
too much. that’s one of the biggest mistakes that human beings...

geometry class. 2:21 pm.
her teacher blathers on about factoring expressions.
she wonders, if it is so possible to cleanly separate out the good and the bad,
the needed and the unnecessary...if it so easy with mathematical expressions...
why is it so difficult with us?
why is her mind such a mess, in a way that can never be tidied or fixed?
why is there so much confusion, a constant storm in her head that sends torrents
of pain in...

in the field behind her old best friend's house.
in fact, a lot of the time when you saw her, you'd think that she was oddly-placed as well.
the polish on her fingernails was always chipped- those nails, they were sky blue or
passionfruit pink, never anything in between. and they were always broken.
she was a little bit odd. she owned this look in her eyes,  ...

I will never be that good.
My hopes are just dandelion wishes, wispy and drifting away-
one breath. too hard, and everything. falls. apart.
life is too hard- there are never enough words, not enough time,
to describe all the ways in which the world makes me wish,
that i could be good enough.
write faster. dream bigger. be better.
I am not myself anymore. I am a broken mosaic of all the people I have loved-
but I cannot...

The life of an Asian American is filled with constant reminders that we do not belong. “America supports you.” “If you don’t like it, leave.” “We’re the best country in the world!” “You don't need change, you're lucky to even live here.”These are the false promises and the hateful truths that have targeted teens like me in school, on social media, and in daily interactions. all our lives, we have just nearly missed each other.
tormented by loneliness in this world that will smother-
hopes, and dreams, the life in our hearts,
i feel this way, darling, because we’ve been apart.
we both lived on R street, the same year, the same time,
just seconds away yet so far from being mine.
we brushed paths again, the same zip code, and time slowed-
when i realized, again, that it’s just a few roads.
Just some...
