PROMPT: Extraordinary in the Ordinary

It stretches its curved skeleton,
the white bones and taut ligaments
dry and bare in the sun
glide through the air above mountain tops
like waves of green, the leaves,
distant grains of sand.
Listening to the tides it
remembers the days
when its lungs were filled by the sea

My grandmother's garden

PROMPT: Food Writing Competition 2021

    My grandmother didn't always see cooking as a chore. When she was six, her father took her out to the garden, small red tomatoes hanging from their stems, potatoes hidden in the rich soil, and cherry trees lined along the east fence were all things that grew out of his magic hands, dirty and covered in calluses after weeks of ploughing and sowing and digging, but which could make everything from leeks to pears grow with wondrous results.
