PROMPT: Flash Fiction Competition 2021

I have a fantasy that I am somehow cursed. In early February, I found fifteen dented cans of garbanzo beans scattered across the sidewalk, half-buried in the snow. Patterns follow me. I want to believe that existence is repeating itself in an attempt to give me a sign, but I’m afraid that I might be illiterate in whatever script it’s using. 
    I hope there's a story at the center of the universe. I keep finding dead birds and living snakes....

The humidity in the air had reached its saturation point. As they walked from the tram-station to the office, a light mist began to fall, dampening everything. It beaded up and ran off the synthetic sleeves of Ezra’s light jacket. 
    Roswell was not as lucky, his suit jacket absorbed the water and was soon soaked, despite how quickly he hurried through the misty streets. He seemed to be in an immense rush, had been ever since they’d left Sun-Corp....
