televisions talk too much.

so I switch mine off instead and repose into silence
in a blue world - blue sheets, blue walls, blue lights -
let the mattress muffle the engines outside
and the neighbours shuffling in the threshold
of house and home,
snorting on cigarettes,
blunt beaks of ember in the soot-light.

televisions talk too much
so I’m left with fifty radios instead,
satellites colliding and aligning to the batons of

A Story Stranger Than All My Dreams

PROMPT: Year by Year

Year One: I have become
a foam-speck on the sea, dust caught beneath the sun.
     My mother's lost - she's barely twenty -

testing the cotton for something new
(something lupine, incandescent).
The sun coaxes
his skin into pocked blisters and white lines;
the moon whispers kindly
of laughter
and of love.

Black Paper

I know what you did in July
when the sun singed your senses away
and you burned everything,
paper cups and paper planes
made ash
