Dance

FREE WRITING

What is a dance?

A dance is the way you move your body, each limb synchronized and controlled.

It is what you call the result of hours and days worth of practice. Of sweat and blood and bruises and tears.

It is, for some, mere recreation. A way to pass the time, if you will.

It is a competition, a fun activity, an exercise.

For others? It is their life. They live for those few minutes on stage, for those...

One of the Crowd

FREE WRITING

Plain.

There was only one word to describe Amore Romano, and that was it.

She was the most unremarkable person one could imagine. There was never a time when her nose wasn't stuck in a book, never a time when her very existence didn't loom around it. Foggy glasses, large sweaters and boring brown eyes completed the look.

She was plain, one of the crowd. Not someone worth a second glance.

Or at least that was what she appeared to be.

Looming Death

FREE WRITING

A spot of red on palest snow,
Even as the sun set the land aglow.

A rose in bloom,
signal of the what looms.

So much sound,
as the men hit the ground.

Flashes of dearest love,
and then visions of the white dove.

Erased by orange and yellow,
through closed eyelids that barely make it mellow.

Searing pain,
a bloody rain.

An endless weight,
for a horrible fate.

A quick end for the lucky,
drawn out for the unlucky.

Swastika

FREE WRITING

It sickened me when I learnt what this sign meant to most of the world. What it symbolized.

I remember the day I learnt it like it was yesterday.

I was in fifth grade, drawing something. For what, I don't care enough to remember. All that's left of that project in my memory is that it had something to do with heritage.

I drew the Swastika.

I received stares. And in some cases, hateful glares.

I was confused, and a...

Waiting

FREE WRITING

We are always waiting.

Waiting for that perfect person, that perfect moment, that perfect day.

Waiting for the world to get better, to fix itself, to save itself.

We are waiting for the other shoe to drop, for death to meet us. We are constantly looking over our shoulder- if not literally, then figuratively- waiting for the ultimate tragedy to occur.

And yet, what does death matter, if you haven't lived?

It doesn't.

Imagine for a moment, that destiny doesn't...

Dagger

FREE WRITING

Imagine if a house could tell tales? The people it'd know, long forgotten and yet preserved? Imagine, everywhere you walked, someone- no, something -would remember every step you took, every nook and cranny you explored.

The houses, the buildings we spend most of our time in, they'd know us better than we knew ourselves.

They'd know of our deepest fears, our nightly terrors. They'd know about what made us cry, or laugh or feel. They'd know our footsteps,...

A World's End

FREE WRITING

The world didn't end in a crash or a bang...

It ended one scream at a time.

As I slumped against the wall, knees drawn up to my chest, trying not to succumb to the madness, I thought back to the day it all began.

Story

The quarantine had been put in place, and I tried not to pace like a caged tiger. Our technology had improved considerably, but nature had gotten the better of us.

How was it that...

The Unlit Light

FREE WRITING

Thunder crackled and lightning split the sky in half, lighting up the night and yet diminishing the stars. The waves roared and crashed upon the rocks with an untold fury, and the world shook because of it. A man raced up the steep and cracked steps, heart in his throat and every breath panting.

The storm had come without any warning, as if it had been created just the second the skies darkened and thunder deafened you.

"I should have...
