PROMPT: The Peace of Wild Things

Trying to make sense of the banal and the blessed
Where do the secrets of my soul lie?
Like jewels scattered by the oceans tide
I pick them up or wander by
I am still wondering what it is
To feel the intensity of life’s kiss
In a green field stands a young magpie
He is learning to sing to life
I sit nearby and drink in
The alive quiet of the sun, the grass and him
I watch the...

ghosts and rain

PROMPT: Everyday Magic

This was that time of year when storms rolled in during the afternoon and lulled the city to sleep. The rain fell like a blessing on the summer parched earth and everything that was alive rejoiced. But she was sad as if the raindrops where tears and the heavens themselves commiserated with her loss of a lover dead too young. On wet days it was one of her fancies that ghosts wondered the world more freely. People rushing to escape...

90's child

PROMPT: [Insert Age]

I feel again the gritty pain
That was the birth of my generation
Born with a howl
With a flow of foul words
With the scent of sweat and alcohol
Into a disturbed world of strobing light
Born knowing that these were the end times
But determined to take every scrap of life back
Not precious and pure but brutal and honest
We teetered on the brink
Unsure if we would live or sink
And yet out of that stink...

In the black heart of innocence

PROMPT: Flashlight

I have lived in the dark lands so long
My eyes have grown wide to let in the light
The night is full of colour and stars
And I can take your hand and walk you into the dark
But even though I have these owlish tendencies
There are things I don't know, blind spots of my own
I need your eyes to see just as I lend you mine
And we will have to be very brave
For its...

Wills on the art of loosing

PROMPT: The Things They Carried

When we began this expedition they thought it was a wise decision
That we take six laden wagons, I have since thought that needed revision
For all along this venture we have been shedding possessions
We have given up rum, sugar, guns and ammunition
We have lost our loyal camels and horse
While struggling through swamps on our course
The men have split and changed again
And now Burke, King and I remain
Some Like Landells and Beckler turned away ...

Evan and the foxman

PROMPT: Novel Writing Competition 2015

Evan wandered among a collection of small tents occasionally being drawn in to test his skill at various games that were offered. At the far end of the field Evan came across a tent with the label of Freaks! above its entrance. He went in curious to see what this might mean.  The lighting of the tent was kept very dim perhaps so that fooling the eye was easier. The first thing that confronted Evan out of the gloom was a...

Grass Roots Change

PROMPT: Ripple Effect

Like David Suzuki I believe that environmental change will rise from beneath.
For three years I worked for conservation opposed to that behemoth called government.
The few times I saw it shift were when the people gave voice, and rose like seedlings from beneath the pavement.
So I ask you to connect and speak out for what you treasure.
Lend your voices and hands so that your little seeds may grow to mighty trees for future generations.
