Constant Worry

FREE WRITING

I feel helpless. I feel like a wounded member in our pack of two. I feel like you’re reaching the end of your patience with me. That you’ll soon have no choice but to move on without me because I’m only slowing you down and attracting trouble.

If only you felt
The way that I do
I'd write poems and
Draw pictures of you.

I get so nervous
Just thinking of you
You look so cool and
I think that you're cute.

Honey

You look like beauty.
You feel like velvet.
My mouth tastes honey
When it touched your skin.

Smokey

FREE WRITING

You take my shape and fill me,
Your musk consumes my lungs .
My stomach pains, then just as
My tears fall, you leave me.
Nothing of you left to see?
No trace, nothing left to touch
Leaving in your space a cloud
of deadly familiar smell.

Add punctuation to really emphasize the emotion. Read it out loud and try to convey the pauses and delivery you use with various punctuations.

Watching You Leave

FREE WRITING

You seem to be all grown-up,
Driving in your old white car.
I know where you're going,
Not too fast and not too far.
I wait 'til you can't be seen,
Not worried about the drive--
I worry you'll outgrow me.

PROMPT: Speechwriting Competition 2020

In the United States, at least 32 transgender individuals have been violently killed so far this year. This year has been particularly difficult. We watch as records are broken in ways that endanger public safety. We see an increase in violence, and we know our country has been hurled into a flaming mass of disarray through repeated malfunctions. I was born in this country, this is my home. I worry about what is to become of our country like everyone...

The Beginning of the Wait Period

FREE WRITING

”It’s ok to cry,” I remind myself. A message that comes from me, it feels like it comes from you.
I can’t bring myself to rid the tears just yet. 10:21 you’re gone, down the road. Soon to be miles away. You were here just a second ago. Two weeks won’t be long, I remind myself. It’ll fly by. I adjust to the feeling of being without your touch again. Your presence is so close, just a few minutes ago....
