small

small

tw: eating disorder

murky blue bags under her eyes
carry the weight of  ten sleepless nights
the heavier these bags
the skinnier her thighs

like strands of twine
folds drag down her face
nine creases have settled
what a disgrace

eight ragged, red lines imprint her skin
her figure grows small; she is much too thin
she’s all jumpers and jackets
crops belong to the bin

every part of her pales
every part of her - frail
a ghostly white shade
seven less on the scale

tears of salt, she just cannot cope
six meals now, skipped like a rope
crying at cramps
she is draining of hope

take five steps, she’s dizzy
can’t eat now, she’s busy
her iron’s not low
it’s not that she’s picky

four pushups and sit-ups, it’s all she can take
she’s got to keep going, no time for a break
the weight must be lost
can’t handle the hate

ribs too sharp

i remember (please read footnotes!!)

i remember
when inspiration came
as a rolling wave.
constant and unavoidable.
it would flood my skull
sending thoughts
spiraling
into whirlpools of
endless possibilities.

i remember
when happiness was
as certain as the rising
of the sun.
glowing and warm.
sending sparks of joy
shooting
through my limbs
colliding
into orbs of laughter.
i remember.

ocean

the ocean was white-capped-waves, glistening layers of sun on the water, the salty smells, the screech of gulls. It was peace, serenity - it was home.

she used to be me

i remember
the confusing current
of emotions
streaming
twisting
rippling
bending
towards me
as i fought
as i struggled
to find myself

i remember
the pain
throbbing
aching
tormenting
my heart

i remember
my soul
raging with
the flames
of justice
lapping at my fear
building the anger
to push through
the heavy weight of darkness

i remember
the colours of imperfection
that created my figure
molded my personality
into something
that could not be broken
now

the current slows
the pain dulls
the fire dies
the colours fade
and with it
everything that made
that ugly, beautiful girl
a person of worth

now
an empty shell remains
slugging through the
days
weeks
months
with a back hunched
and dragging feet

now
i am fixed
i am whole
i am done
i took my pain
for granted
now it is gone
and with it
her

she is gone
she used to be me

Winter

the winter sun reaches down
its silvery rays
the fog hangs low
creeping around town
and layering the houses in grey
the dew sparkles on the grass
only visible
to a curious eye

the clouds cry all night long
blocking out the stars
sadness bubbles up inside
i feel melancholy and cold
the wind bites at my skin
nips my nose and fingers
my shoes leave muddy footprints
that squelch on the floor
fear blooms through my body
thunder roars

warm sensations fill my mouth
hot chocolate sits on my tongue
soup swishes around my cheeks
pumpkin burns under my teeth
the taste lingers for all of winter

fire crackles in the corner
like an old man laughing
hail clatters onto the roof
and i cover my ears

shrieks echo across the neighbourhood
as families race
to escape the rain
bundled in warm coats
woolly scarfs
running towards warm hands
shivering ceases
and night begins

A Tour Around Earth

  1. Travel through interstellar galaxies scattered with pinpricks of light.
  2.  Fly past explosions of space dust that bloom across the sky, shooting swirls of colour.
  3. Carefully maneuver yourself around the millions of asteroid belts sending chunks of rock hurtling towards you at unimaginable speeds.
  4. Avoid the scraps of space junk.
  5. Grow nearer to the speck of emerald and azure; watch as its intricacies grow finer, as its detail becomes prominent.
  6. Touch down in a chartreuse wonderland and observe dew drops that paint glittering rainbows onto the mass of leaves.
  7. Trace your fingers against the engraved crannies of age-old trees, listen with enchantment to the creature’s delicate songs.
  8. Ignore the whir of machinery growing closer.
  9. Rest your eyes on the continent dusted with mountains of snow and oceans the bluest of blue.
  10. Explore the vast masses of ice carved into glowing monuments, cran your neck back to view the splashes of viridescence and sapphire that churn in the sky.
