He watches the crimson stain the wood. He thinks permanent stains and mama would hate him for it just a little for tainting the clean white floors but she would get sandpaper and scrub it out hugging him to show that there was no harm done and he would say sorry and the reminder of the stain would haunt him every time he looked at the floor even though she said it was okay already

Watching

FREE WRITING

Mama is always watching.
Watching to see if my homework's done.
Watching me mangle the keys on the piano.
Watching and waiting for something great to happen, for the seed she planted to sprout.
I, too am watching.
Watching others soar and rise in their accomplishments.
Watching them get into schools, classes they want.
Watching them brandish their perfect strings of A's.
I want to stop watching, but my eyes are burning and I can't tear them away.
I would...

It was so dirty.
She is fifteen and naive.
She gets out the bleach. S̶h̶e̶ The place needed to be cleaner.
She thinks she can be someone else. She goes to a club.
Pulling on a pair of latex gloves, she scrubs away the dirt.
The man she meets was so charming at first.
She wipes the windows, but the outside remains dirty.

hahahahahahaha
"Please stop," I ask the voice politely. The lady who is sitting next to me on the bus gives me a look.
no, it says. It continues laughing. hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I close my browser. Maybe that's enough memes for today. I need to finish a report anyways.
more, it says.
"No."
The lady gets up from her seat (I can't blame her) and shuffles away.
MORE, it says.
"No, I really think that's enough," I say firmly. Firm...

hope(less)

FREE WRITING

How do you get up every day?
How do you push yourself so insistently, knowing there's always someone better?
How have you not given up?

I think I gave up a long time ago.
Useless, they say, shaking their heads. Lazy good for nothing.
I watch them run on their treadmills. They are going nowhere, but they look so happy.
What have they achieved that I haven't?

There is(n't) a̶l̶w̶a̶y̶s̶  hope.

Pressure

FREE WRITING

Slowly and methodically, she squeezes each plastic bubble until it gives way. She has never made it to the end of the bubble wrap. There are always ones that she misses.
Yesterday at work she tried to forget him, but he was still there in front of her, taunting her, mocking her.
hello, did you miss me? he whispers as she refilled the coffee machine. we had some fun didn't we, little girl? want to try again? And she tries...
