A Story in 99 Words?

PROMPT: Flash Fiction Competition 2020

A man with some gloves and a mask,
Set about on an unpleasant task.
He took some ink in a well,
With some paper pell mell,
And set it atop of his desk.
“To write a story with ninety nine words!” he said
(I’m aware saids a word that ‘is dead’)
“My poor little head can’t think but of a shred!”
And his tears were much bitterly shed.
I say he gave up rather swift!
Who’s to say we can’t...

To C.S. Lewis, A Hero

PROMPT: Letter Writing Competition 2020

Dear C.S Lewis,
I would just like to thank you so much for all of the influence that you have had in my life. Though I have never actually met you, I feel that I have come to know at least a small part of you through your enchanting books. I love to read, and should hope to say that I have read a fair amount of books - good books, in my short lifetime; but very few...

Finding Light

PROMPT: Poetry and Spoken Word Competition 2020

Though for the weary soul, it may be the dark night,
You can search through inner gloom to find constellations shining bright.
And when you find yourself shrouded by curtains of woe,

PROMPT: Writing for Children Competition 2020

Once upon a time, in a little old house, lived a little old woman.
(picture shown of a small room, with a crackling fireplace, a bookshelf, and a little old woman, with glasses and short curly gray hair. She is knitting something. Several tarnished looking instrument cases lay in the corners of the room)
This little old woman was best known by her neighbors as ‘Grandma tuney’ This was not because this was her name, but because the little old...

The Soul

PROMPT: Novel Writing Competition 2019

The Appleton Palace was truly a place of grandeur. Sitting at the base of a dormant volcano, it had colossal crystal chandeliers, ranging sizes of stained glass, round topped walnut doors, and several marble balconies. The balconies were particularly fine. Their sides had been trimmed with immense detail, and the southern balcony overlooked the entirety of Heartland City, and further beyond, to the ocean. However, Detective Alcott reflected, the view certainly wasn’t very nice at the moment. In fact, it...
