Snippets of Strangeness: Who am I?

FREE WRITING

Who am I? Am I the quiet, witty girl who sits in the back of class?  Am I the one who tells the truth and critiques everything?  Am I the sarcastic and risqué friend?  Am I the sweet, obedient daughter?  Am I the outspoken activist, ready to debate?  Am I an emotional wreck that leans on everyone? Am I a cold, standoff-ish, a*******?  Am I a beautiful human who loves her body?  Am I an unlovable freak who can’t even look herself in the eyes?  Am I...

Snippets of Strangeness: Left Brain, Right Brain

FREE WRITING

Facts don't care about your feelings, so why should that change for you?
This isn't kindergarten, so put away the finger paints
Get out of your fantasy world, there's work to do

Here's your problem, you don't have empathy
You strut around like you're better than everybody
To you, everyone is your enemy

I don't care if she's a f******* saint
Tell her the truth, that's how you communicate
Oh and there you go, getting so upset you faint

Snippets of Strangeness: Washing Machine

FREE WRITING

My brain is like a washing machine, except the detergent has been replaced by an anxiously churning glob of irrational fear. Everything is moving so fast. I’m falling into its spinning spiral. Each thought slams into one another, slapping against my skull. The buttons of logic slam into the metal barrier that traps insides. The sharp metallic sounds of buttons echo through my mind. Everything is moving too fast. The scent of burning rubber fills the air as the band...

Snippets of Strangeness: Memories Are Like Pins

FREE WRITING

Memories are pins that puncture the fabric of time,
creating your personal wrinkles in the cloth of the universe,
pulling lives together like thread and needle,
connecting strands of different realities,
merging lives into a never-ending story of the world,
creating a collection of past, present, and future stories,
pinned to the everchanging, ever-flowing material that makes up space,
leaving prick marks in our delicate existence,
never fully erased,
passed on from generation to generation,
never forgotten.
those tiny, insignificant holes...

Snippets of Strangeness: A Butterfly

PROMPT: Open Prompt

I wanted to be a butterfly,
to flit freely through the blue unknown,
to be admired with fascination,

but
they snatched me out of the dream,
nailed my wings,
pinned me to this wooden prison,
paralyzed and helpless,
only there for their amusement,
for them to study,
to judge.

Told me,
my wings were crooked,
my antenna too short,
my actions don’t fit their narrative,
told I didn't quite measure up.

Now,
I want to be a moth,
fluttering forgotten through the clouds,
nothing to prove,  ...
