Nani's Special Tortilla Soup

PROMPT: Food Writing Competition 2021

"How many people would be coming?"
"About twenty. You know, due to the covid restrictions."
I heard my two aunts conversing. I was not necessarily eaves dropping, you know, one could not hold back from such a matter, especially when you had nothing to do. It was a warm, Monday morning and the sun shone bright through the windows, gently draping itself over the curtains. The laughter of the children travelled through the corridors along with the scolding of their...

I Don't Want to be Entitled, well, I Don't Care!

PROMPT: Poetry and Spoken Word Competition: 2021

PERFORMANCE- https://youtu.be/ljcynn3HtAU

I don't want to be entitled.
I don't want to be called
the epitome of ethical,
the paragon of virtue
and the abridgment of righteousness.

I don't want to be the
lone specimen of the brightest future.
I don't want to be elected as
'The Future President'
I don't want to be an idol.

For if and when I fail,
My mind- that heard these words,
My mind-that expects itself to succeed
fails.
The burden of failure weighs...

A Thousand Splendid Suns (A Fanfic in form of a poem)

Mariam~ "star of the sea"
Her eyes unveiled a thousand suns
dripping in form of pearls
Her frail fingers like withering leaves
shivered with angst or maybe
happiness?
The grey roots were now white
along the hair ends
Her lips trembled
as if lost in the fear of the future
but her eyes had that knowing smile
the smile that required
no words.
One could not count the moons
that shimmer on her roofs
Or the Thousand Splendid Suns
that...

Tears, salty ones

FREE WRITING

A depth, ocean wide
it hid many secrets beneath
longing to be unleashed
but apprehensive, scared.
Scared of how the world would see it.
Scared of how they would judge,
talk behind your back.
Scared of how different it would
be viewd by oneself.
The waves clash against
each other- anger, remorse.
And it lets go when its too much
to hold on.
Tears, salty ones.

I used to be so naïve back then....

PROMPT: Song Writing Competition 2021

Verse 1
I was just five
When I saw those ads on TV
I was so naive
To understand
That even black was beauty

Verse 2
I was just seven
When the girls in my class use it
And I asked them 'why?'
They would say to grow white

Pre chorus
Then came years
Where I never left the house
Without some makeup on
To look cute, beautiful

Chorus
I used to believe
That to be pretty
I need to...

A Beginning- From the Very Start?

Those memories slowly fade away
But reappear as fresh as before
Or maybe more so.
I feel the wings parched up
Still torn apart.
That scar, untouched, undisturbed
Penetrated by those words,
Those words that mean something
Something unforgivable.
That has implanted itself, made my heart their abode.
Those words that were too easy to be let gone, too easy to be forgiven
But adamant to let go.
I tug it behind.
Tug it all.
Impenetrable memories, undefeatable.
Unforgivable.
