stuck pride of place on her little blue notebook
never to be transferred or replaced
lest it would loose its adhesive power
to be surrounded by a constellation of smaller insignificant stickers gifted by friends and family.

The photograph’s grainy quality and curled, burnt edges did little to convince him of its veracity (violins mourn softly in the background). If anything, its imitation of an ‘old timey’ treasure map shouted of pretence, and cartoon realities. The artfully burnt edges, of childhood craft projects and singed fingertips. He knew memories faded as pictures did, as this picture had, but they couldn’t morph completely. He didn’t have the imaginative prowess to embroider such detail into a fabrication, even...
