fizzled vision, 
bursts of color 
flicker in the air: 
kaleidoscopic fever dreams, 
no one else is there. 

drift between tossing and writhing, 
seldom are moments of rest, 
shadows always wait,
watching
she draws another breath.

colors form into figures, 
silhouettes emerge to take shape,
papery moths
unravel,
rising
from shadowy lakes.

unfolded under shadowed eyes
are foggy days and sweat-slicked nights,
blinded by fluorescent lies,
distant sounds of unheard cries.

her voice calls out
Do you hear me?
