PROMPT: Poetry and Spoken Word Competition 2019

Burning
Agony
yet soothing..
Palliating.
Such is my sorrow
Such is my paradise

Liquid anarchy

Made from intricate petals of
the most fragrant rose.
Fashioned from the glass
blown from the finest sands.
Adorned with the mystical
temptress of amethysts.
Buried inside is a spice
that blooms with flavor.

That strikes with malice.

An ephemera of sorts.

Not even the coarse sugars of Sheqer
Not even the rippling honey of Ezti
Can sweeten this torturous potion.

Still..
Still I...

Black sights green
Green glances back
Imperfect irises
surrounded by sunken skin
Tortured by sleeplessness

gives another glance
but is thrashed by the
allure of Green.
The iris is
complicated.

A maze of sorts.
No..
A labyrinth.
Black is pulled into a trance
It is hypnotized
It is mesmerized

The lines running through Green
The damage that creates a
puzzle.
A striking puzzle. ...

Expendable

Life has meaning, truly.
Nothing to deny there.

But when so many around us
are struck down...
When so many around us
lose their lives...

Life has a way of showing us how expendable we all are.
Doesn't it?
Everyone, at some point, leaves us.
Even we leave this world, one day.

That pain, that suffering, when your loved ones are ripped from you...
When they are snatched away from your lives...
Cut from your fate...
Only reveals how cruel...
