The grey, guarded, yet mesmerising spheres.

I didn't mean to become lost.

My conscience involuntarily fell into place.

Or maybe it was indeed voluntary.

My breath caught, my eyes flickered,

Back and forth between their own.

Their teeth tugged on their lip.

My gaze followed, falling there too.

But, it was their eyes, remember?

Grey, guarded, mesmerising spheres I've memorised.

They made me fall in love.

There are the fragile women in the movies that dramatically throw themselves across the room, onto beds, clutching pillows and allowing their tears to soak into the silky material. They clutched them for comfort, the same way a child does after waking from a night terror. The rectangles of fluff are the key to surviving the night.
