The Savage in Me

I am perfect,
So, don't tell me that
I am flawed
Society makes me this way-
Put on makeup and make myself better
They want me to shine,
I have talent
So how dare they tell me
I am imperfect
I am what everyone wants,
You'll never once hear me say
I am worthless.
I'm not a savage
So, youcan't tell me that
I have evil within me
My thoughts are all good, all pure,
Never will I let anyone influence me to believe that
I was born with evil inside of me, with bad dreams and bad thoughts.
I am a product of society.

Poetry and Spoken Word Competition 2019

What If?

When we are born, we are given a pen
A pen embellished by our mothers and fathers,
A pen that we will hold in our back pocket until the ink runs out,
Allowing us to construct with rich vocabulary the life we choose to live,
And As we grow we can scribble in shaky lettering
How much it angers us that our mom made us eat peas,
How our dad put us in time out,
Or how that one boy with goldfish crumbs dusted on his lips make us swoon,
Our parents let go of our hand,
No longer guiding every gentle stroke of black ink,
Our grips tighten and the tip of the pen dances along the edge of the page with urgency,
No longer chicken scratch but cursive, chaotic,
We write about algebra and how deeply we hate it, ,
We write about the books that warm our souls,
We write about the pain,
The feeling of...

A Dog's Journey: The Heart-Wrenching Story of a Dog's Love for his Owner

A Dog’s Journey, written by W. Bruce Cameron is a sequel to another of Cameron’s books, A Dog’s Purpose. A Dog’s Journeyoverviews the journey of a dog and his owner. The dog’s journey is living multiple lives as different dogs in order to be there for his owner. This book is incredibly charming and sweet in the way it portrays the dog’s loyalty to his owner. He lives his life as one dog, and works most of his young years to find his owner once again.
Dog owners have all experienced the love and heartbreak that comes with having a furry friend. Though their life is filled with happiness and love, when it comes to an end it truly hurts. This story portrays this time through the dog’s point of view. He continuously is born as a new dog, finds the same owner again, and has to go through losing them every single time. This book has never...

Escape Room: A Deadly Mix of Puzzles and Your Deepest Fears

When looking for a good horror movie to delve into I often steer toward concepts of the paranormal, or what our world would look like in an apocalyptic fashion. Escape Room, though, took a spin on horror and placed it in a setting that we would least expect. Escape Room, as the title most obviously gives away is a horror film placed inside the twists and turns of, well, an escape room. Escape rooms have been growing in popularity in recent years, which is why the director decided to take a horrifying spin on it.
“Escape Room” is a horror film directed by Adam Robitel and produced by Neal H. Moritz. It’s cast includes Deborah Ann Woll, who plays an army veteran devastated by battle, Taylor Russell playing a college student seeking fear and excitement, Logan Miller, casting the role of a grocery store worker bored of doing the same things, Jay Ellis, playing a...

“Escape Room” is a horror film directed by Adam Robitel and produced by Neal H. Moritz. It’s cast includes Deborah Ann Woll, Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Jay Ellis, Nik Dodani, and Tyler Labine as their 6 escape room guests.
In the movie, 6 people are given invitation to an elite escape room for a chance to let go, change, and be set free. They go through the escape room and throughout the course of their visit they realize they’re a part of a master puppet show where the wishes of the creator are for them to be dead. The movie includes countless numbers of plot twists with a dash...

My December Writing Competition 2018

My December

December
The end of a treacherous climb
The key to our paramount change,
The gas to my car of a new year,
My cold, boney fingers grasping the wheel of hope,
Guiding me, though I swerve
I crash, tumble, and roll,
My hands white from the force of my grip,
Though it was never enough
I rely on this car far too much, to take me where I need to go,
Treating the end of the year as a potion that will heal my pain,
Though I am the one with the power,
My own sweat and tears are the fuel - not the time of year,
Or the cold breeze on my rosy cheeks,
It’s the fire of my own determination,
Not the fire or the aroma of fresh burning wood,
It’s the frost of my pain that will drive me to change,
Not the frost on my dusty car window,
I rely so heavily on a reality we...

Rainbow

Rainbow

When we first met,
You turned the page in the book of my life and started a new chapter,
One with you in it,
And you scribble in your chicken scratch “she is to be loved”,
Our love was like a rainbow,
With ruby reds of passion
And sunflower yellows of belonging,
The warm browns of the home you made for my heart reflecting off the blues of your truth,
But that home was destroyed by the black of your changing soul,
The walls tumbling down until beneath my feet was nothing but the spilled ink of our chapter,
The purple of your apologies piercing my heart,
For I know that the words you spun were nothing but a tsunami for my mind,
A tidal wave of lies drowning my happiness
And I felt myself suffocating at the hands of your memory,
Each page of our chapter torn and crumbled,
Thrown into the flame of our love,
And...

Feminism and It's Misconceptions

Society defines feminism as “the idea that women should have more rights than men.” The dictionary defines feminism, though, as “a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social equality of sexes.” Media has single-handedly changed the definition of feminism and created dozens of new words to define different types of feminism such as white feminism, feminazi and true feminism as a way to stabilize judgmental thoughts. There’s only one feminism in my eyes. It’s the same feminism my grandparents were first introduced to and the same feminism society shuns. In today’s world feminism is an ‘f’ word, it’s something nobody wants to be, and I believe that needs to change.
Feminism was first used in the early 1900s when primarily women felt as though they deserved more rights. As time passed the word now covers areas other than politics such as personal issues and...

Man-Made

I drove down an asphalt road one night,
The tall trees around me consumed by darkness,
The car’s lights illuminating my path,
And on the side of the road laid a deer,
    Still, quiet, gone forever, and
                   Man-made.

My lungs burn with every inhale of smog,
My eyes red with the burn of chemicals,
My nose scrunched in disgust at putrid smells lingering through my walk home,
Dead, dried plants crunch beneath my feet, it’s
   Man-made.

Down the road are hundreds of brittle cigarettes,
Littered through dry earth, marking the number of mistakes we’ve made,
Trash at every corner, it’s as if flowers bloom of plastic,
Animals dying of hunger and thirst because we replaced their home with our own, it’s
Man-made.

We wonder why animals are dying,
Turn the cheek at climate change,
Pray for clean air and water,
And wish upon the stars that our trees are saved, but it's all
           Man-made.
