PROMPT: Tiny Love Story
Once we were like that song that we kept on loop,
Our bodies carving out the melody,
Off-tuned, off-beat voices mending the harmony.
When our laughs, engraved with inside jokes, couldn't fill a room,
our blankets forts did.
We found fragments of the world,
cut,
paste,
assorted by washy-tape and handwritten captions.
We soon discovered differing decorations for our chapters.
You found a pen inked in rose,
Pressed flowers, savouring petals from when he did "love you".
The infatuated ink-stained our pages,

I swear we're now friends,
Our laughter is the song we sing in time,
As your smile grows, crescent moons take the shape of your earth eyes.
Our friends find us a spectacle.
Yet, explaining us is like drawing up a map of the universe,
and you call me the sun-
your sun.
I swear we're now friends
Since our first date,
was in a sleepy orange sunset,
aligning this designation from fate,
avoiding where we'll end-
Well...
I avoided it.
You returned Cupid's...

I bottled my emotions because they wrung you out,
left to dry.
called me the sun only to get burnt.
So you hid indoors and closed the blinds,
told me you love me
behind locked doors,
in cloudy rooms.
I could only shine through the slits of curtains,
so you wished for hurricanes
like the ocean, I drowned in you.
I rose from the east of the hills,
where forests that don't know your name run through,
The higher I got the...

To my past conservative Christian curriculum.
Your classrooms were filled with pointlessly popular bubble-gum-brained boys,
bellowing "fag" or "dyke" as the punch line.
girls leaning into each other lurching lesbian like an unlearnt word
As teachers were quietest,
letting slit slurs slide to the other side of a conversation,
keeping our closets closed,
as you play polite politics.
But at least you taught me to spell words how they sound!
So I know how hate sounds like silence,
that muffled my...
