PROMPT: Flash Fiction Competition 2020
My eyes burn and tears trickle down my cheeks.
I scream. What else is there to do? A medic runs my way. They gas her too, then turn back to me.
I hide behind mothers, behind veterans. Behind innocents.
Innocence counts for nothing on a battlefield.
Soon, their eyes burn like mine. Total strangers hold each other tightly and cry tears brought on by something more than sorrow.
We stand our ground amidst beatings and blood, with only one thought...
