I spend my days among trees as much as I can, thinking thoughts about my hometown, and cartwheeling up the street. I am keeping my eyes peeled for adventure. I love rich pots of soup, the music that comes from violins, and other people's stories.

Message from Writer

I adore a good poem. e.e. cummings is very close to my heart. I also love novels. Writers that I am inspired by include Arundhati Roy, Zora Neale Hurston, Anne Carson, Colum McCann, and perhaps most precious to me, Naomi Shihab Nye. I don't write for anybody but myself and the angels (whenever I am inclined to believe in them).

Sea Prayer

PROMPT: Intentions and Invocations

A body sits.
It sits inside of its own prayer,
a small,
seastone thing.
Seaborne.

What waters lie beyond that slip of gray horizon,
it cannot know, but asks
unceasingly.

A wish inside of a wishbone,
two hands wrapped tight around the whiteness,
begging for an opening.

What prayers lie granted on the embankment of that future,
the gods know, but cannot
speak of.

A body swims.
It holds the wishbone like an anchor;
it asks questions of the shore.

I liked this poem when I first began reading it. I think that that is where your writing is at its best. I like your descriptions of how your body reacts to her presence, and the description of the moment...

am from pines.
The great one, which stood tall in the back
of our backyard before a neighbor took it down.
I am from swingsets
and the rope that hangs
From that pine with an old wooden plank at its end that echoes
the tree.
That calls, Swing me. Come fly.

That great height
In me.

I am from sewing boxes,
from my grandfather's wallet and home.
From that kitchen drawer
