the booming of canons lost
amidst the screams of those tossed
from the explosions of a waging war

we laid our lives down the fight
and wished that we might
be able to head back home once more

most of us will make it back
likely in a box or sack
back home from this distant shore

the screams fill our ears

the dead live forever, in the memories of war
