Clare B

Canada

I'm currently in high school and I enjoy doing writing, journaling, reading, playing sports, playing guitar, crocheting, and musical theatre! I normally stick to writing short stories in the genre of fiction, but I also write poems every so often.

The Two Shades of Life

Life has two shades,
a light one and a dark one.
They are both
very different,
but,
whether we like it or not,
every one of us
has both.
The light shade
is filled with all the happy
and joyful times of our lives.
Times where our good deeds
outshine our darkest ones.
This shade showcases
what we should all strive to have,
kindness,humility, compassion.
The dark shade,
however,
contains our secrets
and dark thoughts we do not
even want to admit having.
All lies and deception lie
enfolded in that
dark shade
of our beings.
This dark shade can snuff
out the goodness of our
light shade
far easier than how our
light shade can overcome our
dark one.
But, both can shine through
and overpower the other.
It is up to you which one
you let define your character.

A TYPE OF RIDDLE FOR YOU TO SOLVE

Everyone has used me.  People touch me everyday.  I move a little, but never actually go anywhere.  Whenever you need to go to someplace you use me.  I am seen in every building, whether it be a home or an office.  What am I?

A TYPE OF RIDDLE FOR YOU TO SOLVE

Everyone has used me.  People touch me everyday.  I move a little, but never actually go anywhere.  Whenever you need to go to someplace you use me.  I am seen in every building, whether it be a home or an office.  What am I?

That Chair

I've been sitting in that chair  the past twelve years.  Some would think a chair to be nothing more than a household appliance.  But to me, I had studied in that chair for twelve years.  I had made some important discoveries sitting in that chair, such as my love for writing.  I had written all my assignments sitting in that chair, had learned to type on a computer, and had learned to play guitar.  So much had been done sitting in that chair, so who am I to throw it away as I would a piece of paper?

Dust

Dust,
it doesn't go away unless you clean it up.

Dust,
it's literally everywhere,
on your mantle, on your chair.

Dust,
sometimes you see it,
sometimes you don't.

Dust,
it floats in the air and tickles your nose.

Dust,
it's a must, it has always been and will always be.

A Poetic Piece About Peace

Peace,
sometimes it is not easy to reach.
One might say it to be impossible,
but I say it to be adoptable.

"But what does it mean to have peace in your life?"
Well it means you will have much less strife.
Peace is like going into a long sleep,
there is no one there to disrupt your calm a make you weep.

Lastly, peace is like stream of flowing water,
It can surround us  snuff out the darkness, much like a flame underwater.

The Art of Specificity

The Owl Of Mystery

1.  The owl sat perched on a telephone line.

2.  The magnificent owl sat perched atop a telephone line staring down at a flock of chickens.  The owl was quite round with piercing black eyes that roved about.

3.  The owls feathers bore great detail etched within them.  Gazing up at this amazing creature from not ten feet away gave someone a taste of oneness.  From this distance of course, you see how his eyes burrow into his head.  How he has a look and feel of sovereignty.  How he has a feel of mystery about him which you will never know.  How standing in the presence of this bird makes you feel alive.

On the Last Day of the World

The End

I would surround myself with those I love,
and ready my soul for the journey ahead.

Year by Year

Sixteen Years Of... Me

Year I: I can honestly say I do not recall much about this year of my life, although I do believe there were a lot of diapers involved.

Year II: I guess I began to learn to walk, talk (only a few words though).

Year III: I began to learn the art of fingerpainting. Oh, and my little sis was born.

Year IV: I realized that my little sister was quite ticklish, I enjoyed tickling her and making her laugh by making funny faces.

Year V: I began playing softball (T-ball)! Which I still do to this day, going on 11 years.

Year VI: My parents were sitting in the living room, they told me to go get mu sister who was in our shared bedroom. I went down the hall to go get her. I came back dragging her on the rug floor behind me by her foot! That was my way of 'getting her' back then I guess!...

A Mothers Regrets

I watch from afar as a little girl named Georgia
plays with her dolls on a back porch.
I watch her skip and dance around them as if she
were putting on a show,
and they were her audience.

Sometimes she would pick them both up and
pretend to dance with them.
Ah, the beauty of little children's minds!

The sun was now slowly setting on the horizon,
about to go to sleep.
The little girls mother calls to her saying,
“Come in for supper Georgia.”
The girl snatches her dolls, her dancing partners,
by their golden hair and dashes inside.

My cheeks dampen as I begin to wonder,
wonder about all that could be, but was not.
My cheeks begin to dampen as I begin to remember,
remember my painful past full of regrets.
My cheeks begin to dampen as I begin to realize,
realize that that little girl could have been my own,
if I had not given...

Why I Write

Why Do I Write?

I write to express myself in a way that I could not do with anything else.  When I write I feel like I'm in control of my story, I get to decide the beginning and end, unlike real life, which has so many unexpected turns that we must embrace.  I write so that I can escape my life for a time and tell a completely new one with words.  My hope is that my writing will inspire someone to begin writing as well, because a great writer can be born anywhere.
