Missing You

FREE WRITING

I'm lonely, I fear.
Without you the bed feels bare.
Can't you just lay here?

The lovers next door I overhear,
their chorus a constant reminder that your no longer here.
How could you just disappear?

Still, I recall how it felt to run my fingertips through your hair.
Imitating the action I weave now only air.
Did you ever intend to care?

Why am I the only one to have shed a tear?

Are your sheets not bare?
No...

Birthday Candles

PROMPT: Writing Small

Mere matchsticks that have turned to ash.

Together they burned so bright, but they weren't mean't to last.

Memories leaving a stench, they still sting both eyes.

Stained black all that is left are the regrets.

Striking yet another match, trying to be lit again

for the fifth birthday candle.

Mother Earth's Arsenal

PROMPT: Into the Woods

Acres of arrows
pointed to the skies,

With spare heads
laced with gold
both at dusk and at dawn.

Pine needles for fletchers,
they wave in her breath.

Earth bound.
The nocks are set in the soil,
with roots for a bow string.

The curve of her core,
serving well as the arrow rest.

Mother Earth has an arsenal of trees at her disposal
not to combat with us,
but rather with what we've done with our own freewill.

Are your sheets not bare?
No longer needing me, is someone new laying there?
Is it your new love song I now overhear?
To you have I just disappeared?

I find myself in despair

Because you've been unfair,
Yet, I can't help wanting your near.
Will you even see this flare?

I miss you Dear.

Can't Hide

V 1:

I heard you ringing all last night
Leave a message at the tone
Starts with beggin, sobbin, pleading for company.

Always wanting ( x 2)

Pre- Chorus :

But I can't hide

Chorus :

That I'm unhappy
That I'm unsatisfied
Can't read between a line

Of what is fantasy? ( x 2 )
And what's reality?

V 2 :

Kept the phone busy all for today
Don't wanna hear what you've got to say
That I'm being selfish
Being selfish

Why don't I slap the smile on my face?

Pre - Chorus
Chorus

Bridge :

They say you're getting better
They say your coming home
But you've never been here
You've never been here

You're not my home.

Pre - Chorus

Drawn Shore

The sea,
often written about.

Metaphors of serenity,
helplessness and catastrophe.

You evoke empathy.

Create and store memories.

Some claim you play symphonies.

But other than the white noise of your crashing waves I don't hear anything,
and can already see everything that your offering.

Your depths something to fall into
and vast waters a mere reflection of what is above - out of reach - out of touch.

You define to me
what is my reality.

A life in product of being beached onto a drawn shore.

Songwriting Competition

Last December

V1:

She's been carolling
Since Halloween
Spent those hallowed eves singing

V 2:

They bought a tree
She thought it'll grow and grow
But, now just a withered thing

Eleven years old.

Pre-Chorus :

Ma dancing
Daddy spins her sister around the room
Newborns to her right

Chorus:

She never thought that'd be their last December
She never thought she'd want to scrunch the memory in her hands
Never thought a morn of love,
could feel this cold.

The brown paper packages are now filled with coal.

V 3 :

And a new dress
Paired with pigtails
Eyes were round as if they were baubles
Isn't it funny how they're all broken now?

Pre-Chorus :

Ma dancing
Daddy spins her sister around the room
Newborns to her right

Chorus:

She never thought that'd be their last December
She never thought she'd want to scrunch the memory in her hands
Never thought a morn of love,
could feel this cold.

Bridge:

More Than Watchmen

V 1 :

Out of the depths I cry to you
Lord, let your ears be attentive
If those who sow in tears will reap in joy
Help me to consider it all pure joy

Chorus :

More than watchmen wait ( x 2)
Trying to sing
Alleluia ( x 2)

V 2 :

Out of the waters you drew me
Yet from them I cry out
Feet on solid ground
Still feel I could drown

Teach me how to breath again.

Chorus :

More than watchmen wait ( x 2)
Trying to sing
Alleluia ( x 2)

V3:

The water after the fire
Burns more than the wound

Touch me and takeaway the pain.

Chorus (x 2) :

More than watchmen wait ( x 2)
Trying to sing
Alleluia ( x 2)

The Sound of Gravel

The tyres rubbed against the driveways' surface producing the familiar sound of gravel. Home. Her voice tried to run over the sound, but it proved to be too loud. Gradually pressing down on brakes, the car came to a stop at the end of the driveway. "Grab what you need, then come right back," she handed the key to Jess, whose fingers fumbled to grasp it. I quirked upward my brows, with every movement she seemed to be struggling somehow. Clambering, just to get out of the car and casting a look over shoulder every dozen steps.

"Mama," I called from the back seat. No reply. Her eyes on Jess, a figure now in the distance. "Mama," I try again louder, reaching for the door handle I add, " I want to get my soft toy too."  She stares in my direction for awhile before she nods. Slamming the door behind me, I race past the overgrown shrubbery, past the...
