PROMPT: Science Fiction Competition 2018

Puff, hiss, boom. No break. No pause.

The factory was busy today. The air was hot with the combined body heat, steam from the engines clogging the air and leaving a nasty aftertaste in the mouth of the inhalers. All the employees-- slaves-- had grimaces on their faces as they worked.
Work, work, work. No break. No pause.

Puff. One of the machines broke down and burst into flames. Metal ground against metal, sparks flew in the air. Someone spotted...

words are so odd!
so very very odd.
words can make someone laugh--
words can make someone cry.

words can make or break someone
good news or
bad news.
it is confounding.

but for me
words are even weirder.
words can be a trigger
like the kill-switch on a gun,
