    “I wasn’t going to let you see.”

    Such was Juliet’s shock that she didn’t even flinch at Cyprian’s sudden low voice from directly over her shoulder. She was numb with abject horror, frozen to the spot as she stared at Mallory’s unmoving body.

    “I would have found out eventually,” Juliet found herself saying, without really registering her words. Her glasses had slipped down her nose with the cold sweat that slicked her skin, so she reflexively pushed them back up...
