"My Heart is Like"

Drowning

I know what my heart is like
Soft and easy to brake
like ice over a pound
as winter fades and spring comes
a single step is all it takes
all it takes,
to drown.

Once

Once, this planet was full of life, now all that’s left is ruin.
      And memories.
Simon swallows, blinking tears away. Once, this had been his home, once he stood back to back, side by side with a periwinkle haired girl as they fought a war they thought they could win, but he lost all that mattered instead.
He can almost hear her laugh, her voice, soft like bells, on the wind. And for a moment, he can feel her small hand in his. He looks to the sky with a smile. No longer by my side, but never gone.

Once

Once this planet was full of life, now all that’s left is dust.
      And a suit of armor.
It kneels in the dirt, head bent and holding a sword. Both, once great, now rusty and worn from the sun and wind.
It’s a graveyard of something that should never be forgotten, yet it was.
Simon swallows, blinking tears away. Once this had been his home, once that suit of armor had stood back to back with him, her sword gripped in her hands.
He can’t fix this, but he can make things right for the generations to come.

To Stella, From Shylow

To Stella, From Shylow

Hey there little one,
I want to tell you something: This is my human. She’s quiet and lonely and maybe a bit scared. But, you see, that’s why you’re there now. My time is over, I had many years with her, most good, some not quite so.
I remember when we first met, she was only just bigger than me. She cradled me in her arms looking at none of my siblings, just me. I went home with her, and that cat, that day. If you see Princess, tell her I said hi. While I was little enough, my human would put me in a little pink buggy and push me around. I just napped, but she seemed to enjoy it so, I let her. My favorite thing to do was wake her up in the morning. You see, her bed was raised so high she had to use a ladder to get...

Goodbyes

Saying goodbye
is the hardest thing
With words left unspoken
and things unsaid
But this doesn’t have to be goodbye.
Perhaps, farewell, will do
Or, until next time, says it all
Maybe, in the next life, is all that’s left
Saying goodbye
Is the hardest thing to do
But I hope you know
I’ll think of you
until I see you again
Whether it’s in this life
or the next,
I’ll see you soon.
