Steady Heart, Shaky Steps

Her heart beat at a constant, steady pace as she shakily stepped forward, one foot at a time. The very tip of her toes hit the ground first, followed by the pads and then her heel. She walked unsteadily and slowly, almost as if she was drunken and trying to prove that she was not to a policeman. She resumed her unsteady, wobbly pace and they continued walking to an unknown doom.

Teaching Cursive in Schools—A Short Argumentative Essay

Computers, cell phones, and tablets have put a wealth of information at our fingertips. However, the use of these devices comes with a price. Keyboards and touch screens are making the practice of putting pen to paper outdated. In fact, the popularity of typing has caused some schools to stop teaching cursive writing to students. Many people argue that cursive is not needed in a world where most people type. But these people are ignoring the benefits that learning cursive provides students. Cursive is still used for many tasks, and learning cursive can help students improve other skills.

Experts argue that removing cursive instruction from classrooms does students a disservice.  Our world is becoming increasingly digital, but this does not mean that script has been abandoned entirely.  Students will eventually learn that cursive is still necessary in our modern world. They will use cursive every time they write a check or sign a form for a loan.

Aiea - Chapter 1

In this kingdom, it was hard to get out without certification from the royal family.

For the 17-year-old daughter of the King and Queen, well, it was a lot harder.

Gadria crawled as fast as she could in the cramped tunnel under the outer wall of Enlr. The restricting space squeezed her chunky sides, which she sucked in.

“I should have eaten less at the feast last night,” she whispered, groaning as she pulled herself through a particularly tiny spot. Soon, she saw a minuscule light at the end of the largening tunnel.

“Finally,” she sighed, stretching her arm out to grab the side of the tunnel. Hauling herself out, she looked around for the stairs to the exit of the passageway. When she started up them, however, she was stopped by a small whine.

“What the Oele is that?” She questioned, looking around. She hoped it wasn’t a rat. The noise stopped, but a scream rang out, startling Gadria....

The girl I loved was short, like a haiku, or maybe a worm. I don't know. I was never good at describing things or even naming them.

Back to her, he girl I loved.

She was warm, kind, amazing. She had soft, curly brown hair and intense hazel eyes. She was beauty personified.

Her personality was the best. She was perfect. We were engaged, to be married in a month or so. Her mother was flying out to help set up in a week or two. Everything was perfect.

And then we were in an accident. She died instantly.

Modern Issue Analysis: Is There Life After Oil?

Where do oil and natural gas come from? How are they used?
The oil and gas we use every day to run our cars, heat our homes, and generate electricity took millions of years to form. After animals and plants that lived long ago in the ocean died, layers of sand and silt covered their remains. As these layers stacked on top of one another, heat and pressure helped transform the animal and plant remains, or fossils, into deposits of several different kinds of fossil fuels. Some of them turned into crude oil, or petroleum. Other remains turned into coal. Still others became natural gas.

Crude Oil
Once crude oil is removed from under the ground, it is sent to a refinery. Oil refineries are huge factories that separate petroleum into different useable products. A little more than 40% of all petroleum shipped to refineries is made into gasoline for cars and trucks. Most of the rest is used...

Apple Pie

As I go to get
A piece of pie,
I ask myself,
What is your favourite kind?
My mother laughs
As I pass by
Her face folds up,
And she wears crinkles by her eyes
My father’s face
Lights up in glee,
And I can feel
Their mockery
As I head to the kitchen
To get my
Fifth piece
Of apple pie

Sexism

"Feminism isn't simply about being a woman in a position of power. It's battling systemic inequities; it's a social justice movement that believes sexism, racism and classism exist and interconnect, and that they should be consistently challenged."
-Jessica Valenti

Sexism is the prejudice against females or males by another gender. Recently, the company UBER has been dealing with sexism from within the company. Americans have been dealing with sexism from their new president, Donald Trump. There have been so many problems with sexism lately.

A problem with sexism is wages. A recent study found that women working 41 to 44 hours per week earn 84.6% of what men working similar hours earn, and women working more than 60 hours per week earn only 78.3% of what men in the same time category earn. Males can earn up to 4% more than females when working the same job.

Another problem with sexism is sports. Most females are not allowed to play...

Newsworthy

England (The Ones With The Weird Accent)

Here in England, it's pretty much all football (soccer, for all you Americans).

Sometimes there is some controversy and such, so here we go.

In Workington, police blew up a car that was parked by other police officers. Apparently, it was suspicious.

Some football fan pushed someone onto the tracks of the tube. He was jailed.

And finally, some woman got jailed for using abusive words to Jeremy Vine from BBC.

Thats pretty much all the news here, except for all the football stuff!

Harry Potter Summary

Harry Potter lives with his aunt and uncle. A tall man comes to a shack where they are staying and tells Harry that he is a wizard. They get Harry’s school supplies. On September 1st, Harry gets on a train to Hogwarts. On the train, Harry makes two friends, named Ron and Hermione. The trio get sorted into Gryffindor, one of the four school houses.

During the first flying class, Harry gets a fellow Gryffindor’s ball back after a bully named Draco Malfoy takes it. Unfortunately, Professor McGonagall catches him flying, but he wasn’t supposed to. She takes him to see Oliver Wood, the captain of the Quidditch team. Harry is appointed as seeker for Gryffindor.

At the first game, Harry is looking for the snitch, when suddenly his broom starts jerking around. Hermione and Ron think that Professor Snape cursed the broom. Hermione sets fire to his robes and Professor Snape gets distracted, along with Professor Quirrell....

Red

You see it.

It's the colour of the blood that stains the battlefield after a war. It's the colour of the rose in your corsage at prom. It's the colour of the short dress your mother wore to the bar when your father left.

It's the faded bruises on your skin, the wine you drink to forget.

It's the lipstick on your teeth after refreshing. It's the bumps on your face that bleed if you pick at them. It's the door you remember from years ago, before it was painted over with white to hide the scratches. It's the blood dripping from your nails after you scratched the itch on your left arm, the shampoo bottle that hit you in the face many times when you were with him.

It's the lipsticked smile that occured after he was locked away, after the relationship ended, after you found true love.

It's bloody, lipsticky. It's bruised, painted.

It's red.

Black

It's the dark of night. It is the air of the sleazy club that you're in. The dress you wore to prom, the wet slip slap of your mascara ridden eyelashes. It's the tearstreaks on your cheeks from the night before.

It's the feeling of sadness, who's face is covered in a veil of raven, and wears a droopy dress stained with tears. The colour of the haunting guilt on your stomach from your sister's death.

It's the dark bags under your eyes from staying up all night. It's the lines around your eyes from frowning too much.

It's black.
