PROMPT: My December Competition 2019

When they tell you that the older you become, the faster time flies, you don't believe it.

Because you are too busy counting down from twelve, the last few seconds of the worn out year dripping between your lips. The heavy weight of waiting resting on your shoulder blades, the brightness of new possibilities like the glittering confetti ready to burst on the streets. Maybe it’s a little over-rated, the brash and bold hype over this tiny frame of time...

PROMPT: A Trillion Trees

Welcome to the garden of the mind
where the trees sprout when eyes open
wither when they close
bloom and stretch and scratch the blue
when we brush our hand against the rough bark

Few have trunks broader than our childhood bedroom,
the oak sketching the first time we finally won,
veins etching the trail of our tears
whistling the words of our parent's divorce,
vines twirling in the shape of us and our lover's first dance,
roots burrowing deep...

Under her pink duvet, the fierce glow of a laptop screen
She could be anything- secret agent, lover, hero
A shame she chose anonymity, hidden under hate

PROMPT: Flash Fiction Competition 2019

Lucy glared at candles streamed with pink tears. Why do they get to cry when they can’t even feel? Alice had berated her for sobbing before slamming a door as dark as the chocolate frosting she made for today. Lucy’s thundering pulse looped the memory as she scrutinised the wavering flames. They’re like her during Mum and Dad’s gunfights or ‘disagreements’.
Inhaling deeply, worn but loved leather sofas and fire filled her lungs. The living room suddenly became red- when...

PROMPT: Song Writing Competition 2019

you,
you act like nothing's wrong
yeah you,
you don't even feel like we've been gone for long

'cos you want us to be fine, when i know
i'm not that strong
you start new storylines and i can't
seem to move on

oh wouldn't it be nice if i was just as blind
as you with all your words,
wouldn't it be nice if i could just deny
that you became the world,
wouldn't it be nice if you're the one ...

PROMPT: Poetry and Spoken Word Competition 2019

In a garden between hedges of sorrow and
fields of glory, grew
ten thousand and one flowers.
They were Roses
beloved bells, perfumed love
and they were Lilies
like lost fairies you loved in the woods and
never forgot
And they were Petunias
kaleidoscopic, chaotic, melodic
and they were even Weeds
vengeful and cruel and obnoxious but
undeniably ugly
Weeds.
Noted, catalogued and brushed
listed, captured and lush
all except the
nameless
flower.

For though they were watered with the same...
