“Eight in ten of our dreams consist of negative emotional content.” We’ve been taking notes on sleep patterns in a lecture that’s been going on for two hours, and I’m feeling a little sleepy myself. PROMPT: Monster Flash Fiction Competition 2018

Whether joyful or angry, she was playing something alive. Today it was angry. Thread each note into the next, her teacher always said.
She was right there. Then the needle slipped through her fingers. But she kept going, didn’t stop until the last broken note was done.
