It is Time To Grow Up

May 8, 2021

PROMPT: The Unseen

1
Unconsciously instilled at infantile,
The contents of this specific evil is taught.
The babies grow to become relatively humble children,
but it is short lived.

The moment one questions,
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" with all smiles and inquisitive ears,
Passion flies through the window and power takes it place

Though at first, many shall say spontaneous things
like astronaut, chef and designer,
Maturity ripens and the vision of the real world is enlightened to them.
The responses slowly melt into more "professional" choices
    "Doctor!"
    "Lawyer!"
    "Whatever makes the most money,"

Corruption gradually incorporating itself into the minds of the young,
To cause them to grow with a hungry conscience

As the years progress, the conscience only becomes more and more peevish,
All that has clouded the minds of the young is the paper which holds too much power in this world

The constant need for this,
is easily disguised under the intention of stability,
But in reality, they crave it.

The rich and pompous snake into their lives and "inspire" them to be great;
churning their minds.
And once again they are questioned,
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" with all smiles and inquisitive ears,
Passion flies through the window and power takes it place

Now, everyone is driven and few have found their calling.
The rest are left with
"Whatever makes the most money,"

Becoming an adult means added responsibility,
Means added bills and hence the need for that paper
Far too many desire an excess,
They are starving and want to be fed
And it leads to a mold growing on the heart

The entitlement begins, the imprudent behavior begins,
and these people will then approach young children and ask the question which has been asked to them,
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" with all smiles and inquisitive ears,
Passion flies through the window and power takes it place
The real circle of life.

Yes! This poem holds so much truth in it! You captured the way our society works so well! If only grown-ups would stop teaching children that and let them be. I really really liked this, it's amazing.
