The mist settled into my bones and I shivered, sending ripples out from the paddle in my hand and into the water. The boat rocked and I snapped my head around. After seeing my brother still sitting on the hard plank in the canoe I sighed. There was no monster in sight. Turning back around I continued to squint into the mist, trying to discern the other bank of the lake. I was now regretting taking them up on this dare: to cross the infamous lake containing the monster that terrorizes even the most adventurous fishermen.
