"I hope you know where you're going."
"I'm pretty sure I do. I've been here before, remember?"
"Why won't you let me paddle?"
"Because with your hand-eye coordination, we're more likely to end up in the water than going anywhere."
"What are you talking about? You're the one who flipped our raft when we were in Mississippi!"
"Because you didn't know how to use your oar!"
Little light breaths of laughter, fading into the fog like wisps of smoke.
"Are you SURE you know where we're going?"
"I've been here before."
"You're not answering my question."
"That was my answer."
"So you don't know where we're going."
"No, I do."
"Then why didn't you just say so?"
"Do you ever realize that our conversations go in circular motion all the time?"
"Kind of like a Slinky."
"Yeah. Remember when we went to that art museum and there was that giant metal life-sized one?"
"Yeah, that was cool. But I pinched my eyebrows there."
Short, stark, white sheets of paper.
"How do you do that?"
"I don't know. I just did. I didn't have to wax them for a whole month."
"Wow, what a record."
Flashes of white teeth. "I know, right?"
Shimmering, glittering silence.
"I'm pretty sure that this is the place." Scrapes.
"You're pretty sure? Why aren't you sure-sure?"
"Because it's so foggy."
"So we technically could be on an island that might possibly be inhabited by a serial killer."
"We technically could be living in a different reality."
"You could be the serial killer."
"Maybe in a different reality."
"What is reality, anyway?"
Creaking of good things inside. Grunts. "I don't even know."
