Dear writers, have you ever seen the photography book Unlikely Friendships, profiling animals that form surprising bonds with one another (a monkey hugging a bird, for example)? These powerful portraits are heart-warming examples of connection, and we think that they can be carried into the written word as well.
For this prompt, think of two characters that seem like opposites—whether human or animal—and write a story about their friendship. What do these characters learn about each other? How do they connect across difference? How do their personalities complement one another?
Remember to include plenty of dialogue in your story (if your characters are human…or even if they are not!), and visual description (especially if they are not), so that we can hear and see this friendship in action.
