PROMPT: Song Lines

I'm sick of losing soulmates.

Picture perfect,
we flew like bubbles made of soap.

Iridescent in the afternoon,
a-burst with happiness.

Your fingers made my heart pop,
like cherries biting down on teeth.

Yet you let me collapse,
with a caustic kiss.

They'll hang us in the Louvre.

Picture perfect,
framed by gold oak.

A woodcut of love,
carved with calloused hands.

You and I,
vines piercing each other's tender flesh.

We are too beautiful to be seen,
invisible rose amongst a cage of thorns.

I thought that love was a kind of emptiness.

Picture perfect,
like the desert and the rain.

You made me thirst for love,
for the wet touch of lust.

Yet the days rolled by,
in a jet of summer dust.

I found myself dried,
buried by your desert love.

You were red and liked me because I was blue.

I was the pigment missing in your paint,
the color-code you couldn't crack.

We thought we could mix,
and produce something beautiful.

But purple is the color of bruises,
and black hearts.

So you scrubbed me clean,
and we frayed at the edges,

to be ripped apart,
         with picturesque perfection.
