I have but one request: read slowly.

I begin to wonder if I am describing poetry or myself; perhaps the difference is not so very great, after all.

A Poem Is

September 4, 2018

A poem is a daydream,
the sun seeping sweetly through a summer leaf,
the sky-blue silences of a perfect moment
strung together in a clumsy hopeful maybe

A poem is the sum of quiet tears,
the truth released in tender feathered honesty
for those prepared to glimpse it
        fluttering within themselves

A poem is a scrutiny of the meaning of alive,
a frigid breath in an instant when a heartbeat is the only sound,
a whispered thrill whose tendrils echo, dreamlike,
        for decades

A poem is a question too magnificently brittle to be voiced,
and for those who ponder slowly enough—
it is an answer, gliding, waiting
to be unearthed by gentle hands
