why do they look so sad?
i wonder,
but my voice is eaten by the sounds
of children laughing and screaming
at the writhing suns we have
trapped in artificial homes.

ii.
i watch
sand-stamped footprints slide into the water,

PROMPT: Paradoxical Phrasing  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

by nature, she was a cacophonous symphony,
adults groaning at her chatter
while children questioned her silence.
spinning 'round and 'round, yet perfectly still,
she wove the world around her,
thin as spider-silk,
protective as a cage.

drizzle me in honey and
dust me in sugar until my skin is powdered white,
flushed with strawberry cheeks and fondant lips
to hide the plain vanilla beneath. but
i will never be your darling, i will
never sit here like a cake ready to be eaten,
ready to let my words be swallowed down
like they are just a dessert,
just the pretty-looking afterthought.

PROMPT: On Belonging  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

i cant find
where i belong
i guess that is
the problem
- lost

a person is
a fragile fickle home
in which to keep
your soul
- feelings

i pour my soul into too many people
and they pour darkness into me
lost myself
lost the light
- feelings

the sea was once my home
a refuge from the night
now i only wish to drown
i beg- embrace me now
- growing up

maybe once i had a place ...

homeless

PROMPT: On Belonging

This is a powerful piece that I related to on such a deep level. I loved you use of the italicized words under each stanza, as well as your rhythm throughout the piece. Beautiful piece as always!
