Abandoned

The floor collects dust
The lights stay off
The paint peels
The books rot
The clothes mould over
The windows bathe in grime
The stairways crumble
The beds stay empty

the house waits and grieves
grieves for those it sheltered
those that left it to ruin

Narrative Without People (look at the footnotes!)

PROMPT: "Narrative Without People"  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

The Savanah was sleeping, peaceful, quiet, calm,
Then a cry into the silence, stronger, rising song.
Suddenly the sun peeks out, winking, waking warm,
Color kisses grassy plains, yellow and oranges swarm.
A rhino gazes up to hear, curious, wise and old,
Antelope stop feeding too, young, bouncing bold.
Meerkats form up to see, alert, always in line,
A leopard climbs a hilltop, clever, detailed design.
Birds hear the song and follow, steady, taking flight,
Across the screaming falls the went,...

Dirt roads with footprints still in them
Wind chimes ring in the breeze
Nothing has been lost yet
But time is still ticking.

Stairs with worn paint
Worn not from weather but the soft sliding of heavy boots
Rusted handles on the doors of still stocked shops
The whistling of wind singing through the cracked window.

A grocery store so recently busy that the full shelves have not yet expired
and the ice in which bottles of milk sat has...

she’s laughing, in the picture.

her smile is broad and her teeth are white,
shoulders streaming copper linen down all the way to her
practical rubber boots, the green ones she wears
around the house.

behind her, the sky is dark and shining starlight,
and a faint mist hovers in the air, a droplet of
water beading on the camera lens,
a single blemish on her silken blouse.

sometimes when evening falls and the moon begins to
glow its heavenly...

Teeth are frightening
Trees struck by lightening
All of us are fighting
To live another day

Food is for strength
Life short of length
All of in angst
Of dying by next May

Who was Robbed

PROMPT: Poem as Letter  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

The moment was unforgettable. I was holding a blade, my fingers tightly wound around the grip. Blood was dripping down from what seemed to be everything around me. The person who robbed me was gone and I should have felt some sort of confidence. There was a boy on the floor and his moments on Earth were fleeting. He was poor and needed to help pay for rent. Now he is the pool of red are pouring into rivers on...

Two Stars

PROMPT: "Narrative Without People"  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

Two stars
As close as possible
But yet the distance between is
Enough to keep them apart
Two stars
Longing for a friend
A lover
But yet
The distance between
Keeps them apart
Two stars
Dreaming of
A different life
One with friends, family
Two stars
Breaking free
To reach for a new life
Two stars
Colliding
Two Stars
Fading
Into Dust
As thier dreams fade away
With them
Two Stars
Only wanting more
Two Stars

To end a broken star,
Galaxies twist a turn from afar,
Hearts of lions know where they rest,
Upon the lonely plains,
And to end a place, to dream,
Upon the lilies, resting frogs,
A mouse trapped, stinging bog,
As the bird sings and screams.

Lay on a oak shelf.

Worn pages
Snuggle under the covers.

Soft thread
Binds their stories together.

Soft and solid exteriors
Protect their sacred innards.

A jacket
Keeps them slick and span.

Woodland Fire

PROMPT: "Narrative Without People"  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

There was a chill in the air
A stirring in the soul
For there were fire and nothing more

How did we harness this piece of perfection
For we are the woodland
A natural connection

Nobody knows how
But we are grateful
For we have fire now

The fox no longers curls in a bundle
Mice underground don’t need to  huddle
For we have fire now

A Heavy Woodland

PROMPT: "Narrative Without People"  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

There was but one breeze
sifting through aged, bronzed leaves
and naught but death
clutching at the shadows.

The toes of moss had crawled forth -
each furry limb a weak, harrowed soul
crying out with tears of dew
at the shining ravens.

Black birds: they would land most
ungracefully,
a shudder and blur of wings through
the autumn sky.

And nothing said 'goodnight'
like the choked call of a widowed owl
sinking its talons into the
thick sadness of...

PROMPT: "My Heart is Like"  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

I know what my heart is like
coursed with adrenaline:
it is like a baby bird
spreading its wrinkled wings
as it teeters on the edge of a cliff
just before its mother gives it a nudge—
a plunge, then it soars.
