PROMPT: Reconstructed Poetry  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

Some Flaggy time
Busy and useless
strange
things
pass
in September or October

Wild is the wind
Glitter on the surface
capture the heart
Or make it hurry

A Temperamental Winter

PROMPT: Seasonal Similes  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

This season is like the kiss of a temperamental sun dragon;
It will be coldest at night,
Yet warm in the day.
It will creep up on you like a ninja,
To try and weaken you
With runny noses and things like the flu.
Yet still it would greet you as if you were an old friend
And warm your cold skin with the sun's smile too.
For this season is an unknown being
And is reckless with it's moods...

An Ocean of Love

PROMPT: "My Heart is Like"  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

My heart is like
the ocean
Always flooding,
over the land.
Then receding.
Constant waves
in an ocean of love.

Oh, Brother

FREE WRITING  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

Who runs around and drives me nuts?
Who fills my clothes with rips and cuts?
Who floods my face in furious tears,
Who is king of my deepest fears?
My brother.

When will he learn, when shall he stop?
When will his wild spirit drop?
When will my brother settle down?
When will a smile replace a frown?
Oh, Brother!

He reads my diaries and books,
He teases me with evil looks,
He makes me want to pull my hair, ...

Book

PROMPT: Icicle  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

That book in my hand
It makes me forget
Makes me forget my sister
The things I regret
Inside of that world of magic and past
There is a child who hopes it will last
Dragons and mermaids
Elves and Fae
Wild West dangers
Going day by day
At the end of the day
When I want to scream
I open my book
And begin to dream
Perhaps a book does not hurt
Perhaps it does not cause a bruise ...

What it takes to rise

PROMPT: Rise  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

When the sun sets
Leaving darkness to rule
When making bets
Makes you the fool
When you fall  down
Falling hard
When the crown
Don't match the cards
 That's when the voice
Tells you to stand
Giving you the choice.
To take the offered hand
You say  yes or you say no
It's your choice
You're free to go
 Some are weak
Some are not
Some will speak
Some won't talk
 They  can't rise ...

Little Plastic Tubes

PROMPT: Icicle  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

They were all I ever saw,
When I came to see you.
The smile I showed you was a simple lie
Never spurred by something new.

I would always move around them,
Careful to never feel,
Convinced that the sensation
Would just make it far too real.

Despite my nonsensical attempts,
I never really saw them go,
And now every time I go to get help,
My soul just feels low.

Raindrops

FREE WRITING  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

Rolling, tumbling, falling raindrops
cascade
Down the face of Nature
Green cheeks glow
Raindrops flow
Drip...
Drop...

Splash

The rainclouds disperse and disappear
Ready to show
Ready to reign
- again
But for now, the sun shines
on the face of Nature
Warmth...
Light...

Peace

The Girl in the Tatted Sneakers

FREE WRITING  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

I saw her
 in the doorway of
Math Class
on Tuesday.

She was laughing
at a joke
and her brown eyes twinkled.

Her sneakers were tattooed
with blue Sharpie
and her laces were a tangled mess
at her feet.

Her sparkling brown eyes
met mine
in the doorway of
Math Class
on Tuesday.

And I melted.

PROMPT: Rise  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

I stand before you,
At the end of days;
Judge,jury and executioner.
Answer my name sake!
Judge me!

My faults are mine,
My sins are engraved in my soul.
Send me to oblivion!
This is the end.
The end of me.

Will I rise?
That is not mine to decide.

Bring Me the Sun

PROMPT: Fissure  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

It's always dark down here in my world,
Not a one ray of light touching my skin.
Still, with a black banner unfurled,
I can't find a way out of the cave I'm in.
With not a single star above and not a blade of grass below,
The only thing that I can see is the gold as a glow.
Bring me the sun in your shaking hands,
Let it shine upon my face.
For when I am burned and...

At the Edge of the World

PROMPT: Icicle  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

A gentle melody wafts through the air
At the edge of the world.
The land stops just short, moss hanging from the ledge,
Like hands reaching into the blankness below,
Trying to catch the shapes in the mist,
The shapes like dreams that you can't quite remember.
And just beyond the edge of the world,
Above the mist and below a pale blue sky,
Is an island,
With a dead tree leaning over a piano.
No one ever plays it,...

Man in the Moon

PROMPT: If Objects Could Speak  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

My best friend is the man in the moon.
Every night, my pale face appears at the window,
Illuminated by the streetlights that line the strips
On which the monsters chase each other,
Their yellow eyes glowing in the dark
And their metallic sheen making the colors beneath
Sharp and sleek at times, or dull and disgusting at others.
But whether the monsters run beside my house
Or if they stay quiet and asleep throughout the night,
My best friend...
