A Half-Burnt Tone

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

I can't scrub colour out of my skin.
The creamy, yellow, half-burnt tone
of swimming outside all alone...
is not the girl I am within.

The bold and strong tan lines stain
where bather straps once lay in place
as arms and legs flew in a race -
marking the days I pushed to train.

But inside lies a different face:
one of hurt and envy raw,
each finger conceals a sharpened claw,
that when retracted leave no trace.

This...

Happy To Sad And Back Again

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

my head is messed up, my thoughts are scrambled
and i'm still able to say i'm fine
my head is pounding
honestly, it's astounding how easily i can lie

everything i am was because
of a heartless bastard leaving me
i'll be honest i said that i promised
to be there for my baby sister

my world was so dull
my heart was so heavy
everything was dim
until i met him

My world got bright
My smiles grew bigger ...

This is Me

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

I shouldn’t be feeling this.
It’s not normal
but look at her;

The way her nose crinkles
when she smiles.
The way her eyes turn a dark hazel
when she’s thinking.
The way she speaks,
eloquent and opinionated.
Her deadpan delivery of the stupidest things
has me fallen head over heels
And the way her hair sticks anywhere but where she wants it
even if
I help her smooth it.

I can’t love her.
I don’t even know
what love is!

But
whatever...

Changing Leaves

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

We are like leaves.
Green in the summer, we face the sun,
And flit with every passing wind,
Innocently yielding to every of nature’s will
With no thoughts in mind of any of them being ill.

At first turn, though, comes a change.
With the battering whooshes and breezes that range,
Autumn brings times of storm
And trees wrought with diseases.
Ailments, though differ, inflict almost all the same—
Yellow, red, or orange, they look at themselves in...

Artist

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

So close yet so far away.
So near yet so distant.

Like the stars, moon, and sun.
Like the iridescent, ever-changing sky.
Like the vast, open-ended sea.

How did we get to where we are today?
What had we gone through to get to where we are standing?
Why is the future so spread out before us?

I remember everything.
I think about it all.

It seems like a dream, and, in fact, I'm still dreaming.

The journey with you...

click

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

there was a click
deafening even against the wind
manic laughter
"come out! let's play a game!"

there was a click
cold metal digging into skin
sobs in your ears
"i'm sorry"

there was a click
the morning is dawning
birds sing and whistle in the treetops
"isn't it beautiful how the sun keeps rising?"
a smile
"yes, i suppose it is"

Long Gone

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

You made me laugh so hard I cried
You made me cry so hard I almost laughed

Where I was simple
When I was a normal teen
You were bright
You were the color in a sea of black

I don't know where I am going and I'm not going anywhere fast
You were going everywhere and you were getting there as fast as a lightning bolt

You were as bright as a shooting star
Until you flew so...

as the song says
i listen to the wind of change
the gust of air blows into my face
change, distance, a new destination.

I'll cry for a while
and miss you indefinitely
the love is still here
though it feels like a slap  across the face
i should have gotten earlier.

i wish you well,
i am happy for the new you
you know where to find me
whenever you need
i could have done more of that

A Realised Change

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

It wasn't the lights,
It wasn't the visits
And it strangely wasn't him
Turning up at my window.
It was the moment I defied her,
Knowing that I was no longer
The girl trapped in the tower.
He was only the beginning
Of my freedom,
From the friends at The Snuggly Duckling
To the moment I entered the city.
Something inside of me realised
That I had changed along the way.
She made me understand when
She betrayed me.

monochrome memories

the pitter-patter of the rain outside
banging relentlessly on my window
rattling me awake.
tossing and turning under the
grey, slightly ruffled duvet,
i couldn't sleep.

banging, the pitter-patter of footsteps resounding on the
old, wooden staircase, the creaking of the doorknob,
i immediately turned my back and feigned sleep.
warm hands on my shoulders, attempting to startle me from my
apparent calm state of mind, bringing me into
calamity.

"Ah girl, please wake up."
my eyes remained firmly closed.
"Ah...

Cry

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

He sits beside a death-still lake, tears clouding up his eyes,
Deep in a desolate forest where the icy wood-wind sighs,
Blue pale lips curled in bitter sorrow, tremble with the grass,
While drops of water patter down like bits of broken glass.

Upon his frail shoulders, a black coat billows in the breeze,
While he bows here, cold and lonely, beneath the watchful eyes of trees,
A misty moon cries softly, sprinkling tears of silver down,
And the...

Change in Heart

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

A moment, gone unnoticed
A decision, a change of heart
Leaving the ones behind
Who walked with you this far.
For friends make the biggest enemies
Without a common goal.
Every word a stinging blow
Striking down the memories we'd built.
Every single one forgotten,
I didn't know what to do.
The pain of loneliness creeping in,
Self-doubt and shame,
Keeping me apart.
But loving yourself can be incredible,
A medicine for the soul.
For once you love yourself,
you...

everything broke inside

my heart stopped beating
my lungs stopped breathing

i couldn’t see anything through my tears

my best friend
my love
my life

i was missing in my own skin
left alone to bare my wounds

you cut me
sliced me
left me to bleed

i had to learn to live without you
without your touch

Hope and Sorrow: Change

PROMPT: A Moment of Change  | GROUP: Poets and Wordsmiths

Change is like life; it comes and goes.
You never know when it is going to strike.
Making cultures while burning others to the ground.

Change is seen in many things.
It created empires that flared bright.
Change sees unseen futures, bright or dull.

These futures included wars and sorrow.
They also included hope and golden ages.
Like a star, they burned bright or exploded into oblivion.

Change lets us know when to let go.
Seeing change is seeing hope. ...
