Message to Readers

Greetings, fellow citizens of Earth!

A few things:

1. This "poem" sucks.
2. This poem is awful it should not be counted as poetry.
3. Its title is weird.
4. This is how I feel about almost everything I write.

All questions, comments, and critique much appreciated. Thanks for reading and have an amazing day! Or night. Either way.

I Guess We'll Never See the Sun Explode

December 9, 2018

PROMPT: We Forget

Sometimes we forget
    that the Earth
    made us
and not the other way around.

Sometimes we forget
    that we need
    the Earth
and not the other way around.

Sometimes we demand
    from Earth
when we're not giving it to her.

Sometimes we believe
    that the Earth
    is ours
when in reality, she's queen.

And when we've used up
    all we've got
    we just might
realize that the Earth will
    live on
    long beyond
our self-destructing species.

Sometimes we forget that
    once we're gone
    we're gone
and perhaps that's when
    we'll wish
    that we, too, could
live to see the sun explode.

Thank you so much for the comment! It really made my day to know that you feel this way. I don't know, maybe now I'll be inspired to write something focused on that line.

This poem is so gorgeous and visceral. The format is interesting and the phrase "live to see the sun explode" is honestly so beautiful. Worthy of being framed or made into a tattoo.
