Blankie for my Thoughts

January 13, 2019

I sleep with your blanket
Every night.
To remind myself not only that there was a day that you were still my person,
But as a reminder that you always will be.
It doesn’t smell like you anymore.
Doesn’t smell like home.
But it is here with me.
And you are not.
It is enough to calm the silent war inside my mind.
Reminding me of how much I miss you.
Reminding me that you’re still living, breathing, and very much alive.
But unfortunately there was a different route God had for me to take.
Still you remain,
My very best friend.
My person.
It may seem foolish to sleep with a “blankie.”
But mine has significance.
Mine brings warmth, peace, and comfort.
When I need you here with me the most.
I miss you dearly.
So each night, I sleep with your blanket.
Even though it doesn’t smell like you anymore, I still find joy knowing that somehow through just a blanket…
You’re still here with me.

Gorgeous! I love the line 'silent war inside my mind'-- it's really fantastic :DD
This whole poem is as well, so touching and beautifully constructed :DDDD
