Hope #candleflame

December 20, 2018

I held a little candle flame
in my hand protected against the winds
protected with all that I had to offer
I was keeping it burning
with whispered reassurances
I told it oh little candle flame
burn with all your might
I held it close to my heart
letting it warm my frozen heart
let the ice thaw I whispered
before I came to the realization
it was frozen no more but
it had turned to stone now
I held my little candle flame
a little bit closer now afraid
in my hand protected against the winds
it was starting to burn out now
the fire was eating itself up
and I was scared
cause then the light would vanish
leaving me alone in the dark eternity
I said oh little candle flame
just hold on a little longer now
I've turned to stone I'm left alone
You're the only one I have
I held a little candle flame
My hope, in my hands protectively
I tried to save it from the
outside winds that tried to kill it
It flickered in and out some more
Before burning itself out
leaving me in the darkness
turned to stone
frightened to my bone
Oh my little candle flame
even you've left me now
I am now deserted

Thank you for your sweet comment on my poem! I love yours as well! It flows very well and leaves me saddened at the end when the light is gone. It also has good rhythm and consistency, with you sheltering the candle and then telling it things. Keep writing <3

To answer your question, yes, the flame is supposed to be a metaphor for my beliefs. Like how people say they're "on fire for Jesus". It's my "on fire for Jesus" for poem I guess :)
