Maybe Things were Better Before

December 9, 2018

Maybe things were better before.
When the Sun and Planets orbited us,
when stars were glimmering jewels in the sky
and not flaming giants,
when the world was flat
and the sky was open,
when our own realities were enough for us.

Maybe we were happier
before we could think,
when we knew that Earth was flat
without knowing it,
when it came as easily as breathing.

Back then,
we hunted and built
and planted and ran,
and our worlds were only as big as our horizons
and it was enough.

Now we don't wonder if we're small,
we know we are.
We know that we're on a rock
spinning through space around a monstrous fire,
in a solar system in a galaxy in a cluster
in the universe,
one of billions,
one of infinities,
and maybe we weren't meant to
discover that just yet.
Maybe we were too fast for our own good.
I don't know if this makes sense, but I'll publish it anyway. Do you guys know what I'm getting at, and do you have any suggestions as to how to improve it?

I like this a lot. To me it's about how humanity has advanced so far we're conscious of our own existence and that we're trying to find other life forms so we know we're not alone out there? Thanks for commenting on my poem-thing it means a lot to me and makes a big difference.
