I Can't Land

When I flew over the mountains
    I saw Apollo’s fountain
I wanted to stand,
    Drink from his hand
But only…
    I couldn’t land.
 
When I passed the flocking birds
    I saw Hermes’ herd
I wanted to stop,
    And choose from his flock
But only...
    I couldn’t land.
 
Teach me the darkest lore
    Land me on the wettest shore
I have seen all this and more...
    Oh! The gore!

I’ve been taken against my will
    You drop me at this hill
Its peaks touch the suns in the skies,
    I’ve been compelled to tell my lies.

I can’t escape.
    I’m no longer living, but oh so alive.
The struggles of the world; my life-long strives!
    On this terrain, my feet touch not the sand
I am no longer living, only being...
    Is this why I couldn’t land?
