this is the turning point

ueno station but in suburban sydney

November 20, 2018

i am an onion, but only on Friday nights.
i sit with my Persian family, they order kebob.
momentarily, the household village is alive,
like Sydney nightlife at 9.
my best friend is the faloodeh
a delicacy too foreign for white man's touch.
sometimes if we are lucky grandfather lets us travel for dessert.
aunty di is with us too.
the table is cleared at 8.

    I. LOVE. THIS.

You have such a clean writing style, and I feel so incredibly there with you, watching your family meals take place. You wrote about race and modernity so very beautifully. I'm in awe, this was EVERYTHING.

The only thing which triggers me is that aunty di isn't Aunty Di...I have a thing with capitals. Other than that, luv it! I remember you telling me something about what I think this is based off and I instantly feel in love with this whole piece because of it!
