I didn't come this far to only come this far.

You and I

November 28, 2018

He’s the type to sit in the back of the class
I wandered without a hall pass
He ditched school to help his mother
I stayed late to avoid my brother

We’re so different we’re alike
Living in the slums, we’ll never rise
Barely getting by and by, oh my
You and I, we’re so different we’re alike

He’s the type to notice the little things
I was the girl who believed she had wings
Thought I could get somewhere, knew that I couldn’t
Wished that I would but knew that I wouldn’t
You were content with what you had
I had wanderlust, I had it bad
Ran away twice, you brought me back
Told me ‘learn to live with what you have’

We’re so different we’re alike
Sleeping on the streets, we’ll never rise
We're master thieves just to get by
Yeah, we're so different we're alike

I’m the girl who runs from the police
Living in the backseat of my car on the street
Waiting for the day I save up enough
Cause life down here’s pretty rough
He’s the boy who lives in the alley
Keeps count of the years with a tattooed tally
Thinks daisies are pretty and so am I
I wouldn’t believe him but he doesn’t lie

We’re so different we’re alike
Living days back to back, we’ll never rise
Knowing we're only ever gonna get by

We're so different we're alike
It's a song btw

As I was reading, and before I got to the footnote, I was thinking to myself, "This sounds like a song!" It's so lyrical and rhythmic! Beautiful!
Wish I could hear it! :)
    Great work!

I love how amazingly relatable this piece is, and how there are subtle but important differences in each "refrain". This makes a great song, too, and the flow is really great
