Message from Writer

sometimes i think i shape the words.
sometimes i think they shape me.

on courage, on stonewall.

November 3, 2018

they fought with fists and high heels,
makeup stained beards;
the slurry of shame,
no longer flooding their hearts.

they fought, with lips locked
under blacklights, hurling
sharpened stones;
watching the world crumble.

and they will keep fighting and dying,
a rose that withers
then rises, thorned,
in the dawn.

taking down the walls,
a brick at a time,
breaking bones;
a thousand colors on our soul.

we light up the dark.

    found this when i checked out the new prompt and i'm very glad it was there (although i didn't, at first, realize it was published so long ago). you write of something important and you write it well. i can't decide if my favorite stanza is the first or the fourth-- both are equally powerful.

    so happy this got featured on a prompt; you completely deserve it. this poem really burns with every line; it leaves a searing message that is so beautifully worded with every syllable. i thought about reviewing this one, but there’s nothing i would change, if i’m honest. i really love this poem—it’s so gripping and important. i’ll be rereading this one several times, for sure.

    You have a way with words; everything you write is so beautiful
