I'm nothing special, in fact
I'm a bit of a bore
If I tell a joke,
you've probably heard it before
But I have a talent, a wonderful thing
'Cause everyone listens when I start to sing

They say if you don't sing your own song, no one else will. Well, that's what I've heard, anyway.

I'm so grateful and proud
All I want is to sing it out loud

I wonder if I will have the confidence to sing my own song. My swan song.
Today.
Here.
Now.
Alone.

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

Music is a velvet ribbon, tying the strands of everyday speech into a pretty bow, tying loops, knots and laces.

Mother says I was a dancer before I could walk
She says I began to sing long before I could talk
But I've often wondered, how did it all start?
Who found out that nothing can capture a heart
Like a melody can?
Well, whoever it was, I'm a fan

My mother often told me if I were to succeed, I would have to stand on my own two feet, regardless of how wobbly and shaky they were at the time.
Now,
now they are firmly planted on the ground,
shoulder-width apart.
I will sing today.

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

I will sing today, I will sing today, I will sing today.
My swan song will ignite the fire in the far corners of the room.

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

Courage is not the absence of fear, I try to tell myself as I grip the microphone. I want to. I want to swim in the waves, gently overlapping each other, a hundred different sounds at once all swirling around me. I want to. But the symphony is roaring around me like a tsunami of sound as the intro begins, trying to crash down upon me and drown me.

I've been so lucky, I am the girl with golden hair
I wanna sing it out to everybody
What a joy, what a life, what a chance!

This is my chance, this is my life.
Is this my joy?

I'm going to find out. My swan song is upon me.

I will sing today.

So I say
Thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me

I will sing today.

I will sing today.

This
will
be
my
swan song

and I will sing it with pride.
Song between is Thank You For The Music by ABBA. If you haven't heard it, please listen! I'm trying to vary my usual music taste here!

Thanks for writing this! I personally love this music prompt, and music in general, and I'm a huge fan of ABBA! I also love the switches between poetry/lyrics and prose. I'll review it right away!
